Whether it's because of too narrow of axles or not enough wheel offset, wheel spacers can put your tires and wheels where you want them to be under your fender. So, are they dangerous to use? In a one-word summation, no. ... Wheel spacers can be used to change wheel bolt patterns and to widen the offset of the wheel.

Are wheel spacers bad for your truck?

That said, wheel spacers affect suspension geometry, and will change the scrub radius, affecting braking stability, and also reduce the effective spring rate at the wheels. Wheel spacers can also cause wheel bearing failure.

Can wheel spacers cause problems?

Wheel spacers can sometimes cause an accelerated pattern of wear on the hub components of your vehicle and its suspension. Because you are creating a wider track than what the frame was initially designed to support, you can place stressors that go beyond the tested tolerances that are recommended by the manufacturer.

Are wheel spacers safe to use?

A wheel stud can only bend if the lug nuts are not properly torqued, in which case the wheel is about to fall off, anyway. ... Therefore, properly installed wheel spacers are perfectly safe. The wheel stud applies a clamping force that holds the wheel to the hub.

Do truck wheel spacers affect alignment?

DO wheel spacers AFFECT alignment? Fixed. Unless you mess with lowering, camber, or caster, adding spacers to widen your wheel stance will not need you to get an alignment. you are just pushing the wheels out more.

The 5 MYTHS About Wheel Spacers

How big of a wheel spacer is safe?

As a rule of thumb, you want at least the same amount engagement as the stud is wide. For example a M12x1. 5 stud would need at least 12mm of thread engagement to be safe. At a 1.5mm thread pitch, this equates to about 8 full turns of the lug nut.

Are wheel spacers safe on 4X4?

But because a bad idea is usually for a good reason, here's Unsealed 4X4's list of good reasons why wheel spacers are a terrible idea. ... Wheel spacers can increase your 4WDs track and stability; they're also illegal to fit and more trouble than they're worth.

Are wheel spacers good for off road?

If installed properly, high-quality spacers won't exert more force on your suspension than wheels with similar backspacing – thus, you won't have any problems. ... Again, spacers are safe for off-roading as long as you use hub-centric ones as they allow balanced-wheel rotation.

Why are wheel spacers illegal?

Re:Why are wheel spacers illegal? they add extra load to the wheel studs. lots of extra load. normally the wheels are driven by the contact of the two surfaces.

Do spacers ruin wheel bearings?

Wheel spacers can definitely cause a wheel bearing to fail quicker. It puts more stress on the bearing since it spaces the wheels out and gives them more leverage on the bearing.

How much are spacers for a truck?

$65-100: This price range of wheel spacers will see generally a thinner spacing design for wheels. These can start out at 1 inch thick. You'll also pay for the number of spacers included in a pack. Typically, they can be found in a pack of two.

Do wheel spacers decrease gas mileage?

Slim! said: your aerodynamics drops drastically which in turn, drops your mpg to almost single digits.

Are 2 inch spacers safe?

They are bolted to the existing studs with the provided lug nuts and then using the stock lug nuts to secure the wheel on the new studs pressed into the spacer. This ensures you can fully engage the lug nuts. ... In a word, using 2-inch wheel spacers is safe, but it requires a few precautions.

Are 10mm spacers safe?

Simply put, yes. Spacers are safe for both daily driving and track duty if installed correctly. Quality spacers are made of materials that are as strong if not stronger than the wheels and hub, so they shouldn't be the weak link in your setup.

Can you put wheel spacers on the back only?

Yes, there's no problem running them only on the rear; that's what most guys who run a Titan suspension swap wind up doing ... and they're typically running anything from 1" up to 2", so that the rear track matches more closely to the front.

Do wheel spacers affect ball joints?

Wheel spacers will and do put extra stress on your ball joints & wheel bearings.

Are 20mm spacers safe?

Properly installed a wheel spacer is safe. 20mm is too short to bolt on then have additional studs, you should use the appropriate longer studs. The spacers should have holes very close (+. 010 dia max) to the size of the studs.

Are 1 inch spacers safe?

Wheel spacers are safe to install on your vehicle, only if they are properly installed. ... If you are going to install wheel spacers thicker than 1 inch, we highly recommend installing bolt-on type wheel spacers. They bolt on to the wheel hub, and the wheels bolt on to the wheel spacer.

Do wheel spacers cause vibration?

Do Wheel Spacers Cause Vibration? Many car owners worry about whether the wheel spacers will cause vibrations. In fact, wheel spacers in themselves don't cause vibration, they are just increasing the track of the wheels.

Can you speed with wheel spacers?

Wheel spacers widen the track of the car; and if this places more of the tire into the airstream, then you may see a small decrease in top speed. On the other hand, aerodynamics is a tricky science and it is possible the widened wheel/tire position could reduce drag over the wheel well hence increasing your top speed.

What do spacers do on a truck?

Wheel spacers are round discs that are installed between the rotors and wheels. The purpose of installing wheel spacers is to widen the offset of the wheels, which widens the vehicle's track. This has handling benefits even when the tire size does not change.

How much does a spacer weigh?

The 12mm H&R spacer weighs almost 12 ounces, the 10mm (strangely) weighs almost 10 ounces.

Do wheel spacers affect turning radius?

Spacer increase the track of the car which increases the turning radius a little but it also adds stability. Using wheel spacers also increases the load on the bearing because you are pushing the wheel out of the car whereas offset is a little easier.

Do fender flares affect mpg?

Getting RAM fender flares installed in your truck will make it stand apart from other stock vehicles. Many Dodge owners are still concerned about how fender flares will affect the mileage of your vehicle. ...
