You get a blue gas flame with a hydrocarbon gas when you have enough oxygen for complete combustion. When you do have sufficient oxygen, the gas flame appears blue because complete combustion creates enough energy to excite and ionize the gas molecules in the flame.

What does it mean when a fire flame is blue?

A blue flame colour means complete combustion. This indicates that the gas is being burned efficiently without any unburned and wasted gas. With complete combustion you get the maximum heat output from your gas and use less gas to generate heat with whatever appliance you are using.

Is blue fire hotter than red fire?

Hotter fires burn with more energy which are different colors than cooler fires. Although red usually means hot or danger, in fires it indicates cooler temperatures. While blue represents cooler colors to most, it is the opposite in fires, meaning they are the hottest flames.

Why is a candle flame blue?

The Colors of a Candle Flame

The hydrogen is the first to separate here and reacts with the oxygen to form water vapor. Some of the carbon burns here to form carbon dioxide. ... It is blue because it directly meets with the oxygen of the air, and is the hottest part of the flame, typically reaching 1400^o C (2552^o F).

Which is hottest zone of candle?

The innermost zone of candle flame is called the dark zone of the flame. The middle zone of the flame is the luminous zone of the candle flame and the non – luminous zone is the outermost and hottest of all zones in the candle flame.

Why is Flame Blue or Yellow? Everything about Flames||Curious Harish

Why is my candle flame blue and yellow?

The red, orange, yellow, and white parts of a candle flame results from glowing soot. The color in this part of the flame is indicative of the temperature. The spectrum in this part of the flame is fairly close to that of a black body.

Is Black fire Possible?

Flames emits light and heat, so it seems impossible to make black fire. However, you actually can make black fire by controlling the wavelengths of absorbed and emitted light.

What is the coldest fire color?

The coldest flame color will be black since the flame is so weak that it barely produces light. Color also tells us about the temperature of a candle flame. The inner core of the candle flame is light blue, with a temperature of around 1800 K (1500 °C).

Does pink fire exist?

When natural gas is ignited in a stove burner, the gases quickly burn at a very high temperature, yielding mainly blue flames. ... For example, the element lithium will produce a pink flame, while the element tungsten will produce a green flame.

What is blue fire called?

The University of Maryland's' scientists have discovered a new type of fire, which they have aptly named “Blue Whirl.” This new fire is small, whirling, transparent, and blue. ... Fire whirls tend to burn much faster and hotter than normal fires. In nature, fire whirls can be dangerous when they occur during wildfires.

Why is the flame blue on my gas fireplace?

You get a blue gas flame with a hydrocarbon gas when you have enough oxygen for complete combustion. When you do have sufficient oxygen, the gas flame appears blue because complete combustion creates enough energy to excite and ionize the gas molecules in the flame.

Is a blue flame on a gas fire safe?

Is a Blue Flame Safe on a Gas Fire? Since blue flames mean that your gas-burning object is working properly and efficiently, they are safe. The blue color is indicative that everything is mixing properly and burning hot. Any color other than blue or violet provides less heat.

Is Green fire toxic?

A slightly rich mixture that “greens” the blue part of the flame might mean a bit more carbon monoxide coming off your stove top, but it shouldn't be dangerous. Green flame can be caused by copper salts or corroded copper parts contaminating the flame with copper ions.

What causes greenish?

Chemicals and Compounds Can Affect Flame Color

A green flame, for instance, indicates the presence of copper. As copper heats up, it absorbs energy that's manifested in the form of a green flame. A pink flame, on the other hand, indicates the presence of lithium chloride.

Is purple fire real?

Purple flames come from metal salts, such as potassium and rubidium. It's easy to make purple fire using common household ingredients. Purple is unusual because it's not a color of the spectrum. Purple and magenta result from a mixture of blue light and red light.

Is green fire real?

Green fire is one of the most vibrant forms of colored flames. It's also one of the easiest to produce with common materials!

Why fire has no shadow?

The main reason why the flame has no shadow is because the flame itself is a source of light. A shadow is the surface area which is less bright than its surroundings because something is blocking light partially or fully from that area. Therefore, a shadow is nothing but a darker area with the absence of light.

Is purple fire hotter than blue fire?

From the visible spectrum, we know violet would glow the hottest, and blue glows less hot. As this is true for all forms of light, its application is seen in fire, or when an object is heated up. A fire will start to glow red at first, which is the lowest temperature of light waves.

Is white fire hotter than blue fire?

The color blue indicates a temperature even hotter than white. Blue flames have more oxygen and get hotter because gases burn hotter than organic materials, such as wood. When natural gas is ignited in a stove burner, the gases quickly burn at a very high temperature, yielding mainly blue flames.

What is a blue flame special?

A blue flame is a fire that is burning at its brightest. A blue flame founder is willing to do nothing but work, forgoing all else but the company. On the flip side, it's also a secret way to describe someone they think is "too old" to get their investment, discovered AtScale CEO Dave Mariani.

When a candle flame is high?

If your candle flame looks like it's burning too high, this may be because it's burning too hot. When you have a strong flame, it appears very tall or it could flicker or smoke. If you see any of these signs or feel the flame is out of control, extinguish the flame immediately to eliminate fire hazards.

How hot is yellow fire?

In a laboratory under normal gravity conditions and with a closed air inlet, a Bunsen burner burns with yellow flame (also called a safety flame) with a peak temperature of about 2,000 K (3,100 °F). The yellow arises from incandescence of very fine soot particles that are produced in the flame.

What is the hottest fire?

The hottest fires are from oxyacetylene torches (about 3000 degrees Centigrade) that combine oxygen and gas to create pinpoint blue flames. Color also tells us about the temperature of a candle flame. The inner core of the candle flame is light blue, with a temperature of around 1800 K (1500 °C).
