Is the gracilis anterior or posterior?

The gracilis muscle is located on the medial aspect of the thigh between the adductor longus anteriorly and the adductor magnus posteriorly.

Which muscle is synergistic with the gracilis?

The hip adductor synergy consists of adductor magnus, adductor longus and gracilis (superficial), adductor brevis and pectineus (intermediate), quadratus femoris, and obturator externus (deep).

Which adductors are hip flexors?

The psoas is the primary hip flexor, assisted by the iliacus. The pectineus, the adductors longus, brevis, and magnus, as well as the tensor fasciae latae are also involved in flexion. The gluteus maximus is the main hip extensor, but the inferior portion of the adductor magnus also plays a role.

What does gracilis mean in anatomy?

: the most superficial muscle of the inside of the thigh that arises from the lower part of the pubic symphysis and the anterior half of the pubic arch and that has its tendon inserted into the inner surface of the shaft of the tibia below the tuberosity, and that acts to adduct the thigh and to flex the leg at the ...

Which muscles can move both the hip joint and the knee joint?

Gracilis: The gracilis is the most superficial and medial of the adductor group muscles. Crossing both the hip and knee joints, it can induce movement at both the hip and knee.

What is the function of the gracilis major in a frog?

The gracilis major (6) is a large muscle that partly covers adductor magnus. It originates on the pubis, inserts on the tibiofibula and acts to extend the thigh and flex the shank. This image shows a close-up view of some of the major muscles of the ventral surface of the frog thigh seen on the previous page.

What is the Sartorius action?

Function. At the hip it flexes, weakly abducts, and rotates the thigh laterally. At the knee, it can flex the leg; when the knee is flexed, it also rotates the leg medially. This muscle plays an important part in stabilisation of the pelvis—especially in women.

What is the action of the adductor longus?

Anatomical terms of muscle

In the human body, the adductor longus is a skeletal muscle located in the thigh. One of the adductor muscles of the hip, its main function is to adduct the thigh and it is innervated by the obturator nerve. It forms the medial wall of the femoral triangle.
