Decidua parietalis; the mucous membrane in the pregnant uterus and not beneath the placenta. The decidua is the modified mucosal lining of the uterus (that is, modified endometrium) that forms in preparation for pregnancy. It is formed in a process called decidualization under the influence of progesterone.

What is the decidua Parietalis?

Medical Definition of decidua parietalis

: the part of the decidua in the pregnant human female lining the uterus.

What are the 3 layers of the decidua?

• the superficial compact layer,
• the intermediate spongy layer,
• the thin basal layer.

Is decidua maternal or fetal?

The decidua also called the maternal-fetus interface (1), is the mucous membrane of the pregnant uterus, and is characterized by immunological tolerance toward the allogeneic fetus and maintenance of host defense against possible pathogens.

Where is the decidua?

Decidua parietalis; the mucous membrane in the pregnant uterus and not beneath the placenta. The decidua is the modified mucosal lining of the uterus (that is, modified endometrium) that forms in preparation for pregnancy. It is formed in a process called decidualization under the influence of progesterone.

Difference between decidua basalis, decidua capsularis & decidua parietalis

What are parts of decidua?

It is formed during the secretory phase of the menstrual cycle as a result of elevated ovarian hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. The decidua is composed of glands, immune cells, blood and lymph vessels, and decidual stromal cells (DSCs) and fetal extravillous trophoblast (Mori et al., 2016).

What is understood by decidua?

1 : the part of the endometrium that in higher placental mammals undergoes special modifications in preparation for and during pregnancy and is cast off at parturition. 2 : the part of the endometrium cast off in the process of menstruation.

What is decidua made of?

The decidua is composed of glands, immune cells, blood and lymph vessels, and decidual stromal cells (DSCs).

What is the function of decidua?

Function. The main functions of the decidua are to regulate syncytiotrophoblast invasion, provide nutrition and gas exchange, and produce hormones. The decidualization of the inner layer of endometrium prepares the uterus for pregnancy, with trophoblast invading into it and spiral arterioles sprouting out of it.

Where does the amnion come from?

The amnion arises from the epiblast cells of the blastocyst and grows to surround the developing embryo, creating a fluid-filled cavity. Thus, throughout prenatal life, humans are surrounded by AF. This fluid serves many functions critical for prenatal development.

What is the Intervillous space?

Intervillous space is the space usually occupied by the maternal blood between the villi beyond the syncytiotrophoblast layer, with the chorionic plate and the decidual surfaces forming the other borders.

Does decidual cast mean miscarriage?

Clinically expulsion of a decidual cast can mimic a miscarriage. Decidual cast have also been reported in non-pregnant women as a side effect with the use of human menopausal gonadotrophin (HMG), human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) and progestogens.

What is the stratum Functionalis?

The stratum functionalis is adjacent to the uterine cavity, develops from the stratum basalis, and is shed at menstruation.

Is decidua an endometrium?

The decidua is the specialized layer of endometrium that forms the base of the placental bed. The corpus luteum of the ovary (and later, the placenta itself) produces progesterone that induces endometrial stromal cells to undergo cellular modifications and vascular alterations termed the 'decidual reaction.

What is Cytotrophoblast and Syncytiotrophoblast?

The syncytiotrophoblast is a rapidly growing multinucleated mass, which invades and ruptures endometrial capillaries forming lacunae. The cytotrophoblast is a layer of mononucleated cells, which invades the syncytiotrophoblast matrix and forms early chorionic villi.

What is decidua PPT?

1. Decidua • It is endometrium after implantation which is sheded after birth of fetus. • Character of endometrium: • Increased secretory function of uterine glands. • Decidual cells are endometrial cells filled with glycogen. • Arteries become more spiral with arterio- venous anastomosis.

What does decidua look like?

When it's expelled, a decidual cast will be red or pink. It will be somewhat triangular and close to the size of your uterus. This is because the entire lining exited as one piece. The decidual cast will also appear fleshy because it's made up of tissue.

What is decidua cell?

Decidual cells are a distinctive cell population observed in the mammalian endometrium during pregnancy. Their appearance can also be induced with appropriate stimuli in the hormone-primed pseudopregnant uterus.

Where is placenta found?

Placenta previa. The placenta is a structure that develops in the uterus during pregnancy. In most pregnancies, the placenta is located at the top or side of the uterus. In placenta previa, the placenta is located low in the uterus.

What does the Syncytiotrophoblast do?

The syncytiotrophoblast, the outermost layer of the human placenta, is the main site of exchange for drugs and metabolites, nutrients, waste products, and gases between the maternal and fetal circulations.

What is inflamed decidua?

Acute decidual inflammation is a reflection of tissue injury by any of a number of pathways. Recently, acute basal deciduitis has been suggested to reflect an infectious cause of stillbirth. ²⁷. Inflammatory involvement of basal plate decidua was sevenfold more common in stillbirths than in liveborn controls.

What is the decidua reaction?

A decidual reaction is a feature seen in very early pregnancy where there is thickening of the endometrium around the gestational sac. A thin decidual reaction of less than 2 mm is considered one of the features suggestive of an anembryonic pregnancy ².

What is placental Membranacea?

Placenta membranacea is a rare placental disorder characterized by the presence of fetal membranes (complete or partially) covered by chorionic villi. A 35-year-old woman, gravida 1, was admitted for preterm labor at 24 weeks and 5 days.

What is between chorion and amnion?

The amnion is found on the innermost part of the placenta. It lines the amniotic cavity and holds the amniotic fluid and the developing embryo. ... The chorion, on the other hand, is the outer membrane that surrounds the amnion, the embryo, and other membranes and entities in the womb.
