Branchial respiration is the type of respiration which occurs through gills. For example -respiration in fishes. Cutaneous respiration means diffusion of gases through the skin. This type of respiration occurs in insects which have no respiratory organs.

What is a branchial respiration?

Branchial respiration is the type of respiration that occurs through gills. For example: Respiration in fishes.

Is branchial respiration seen in fishes?

Respiration in Bony Fish: In bony fishes, the gills are present in a branchial chamber, which is covered by the operculum. ... Fishes take oxygen-rich water through their mouth, pump it across the gills, after which the oxygen enters their bloodstream.

Does prawn show branchial respiration?

Branchial- Prawns are Crustacean Arthropods and respire in the aquatic medium so they have three sets of organs of respiration – branchiostegite, gills, and epipodites. Here, the mode of respiration is branchial which occurs through gills.

Where are gills located in prawn?

Gills are primary respiratory organs in prawn. On each lateral side of the cephalothorax and beneath the branchiostegites, there are eight gills, each attached with the thoracic wall by a Page 2 gill-root.

Respiration in Fish

Where do the following take in oxygen prawn and rat?

Answer : (i) Prawns take in oxygen that is dissolved in water. (ii) Rat takes in oxygen from the atmosphere.

Where are gills located on a fish?

Gills are branching organs located on the side of fish heads that have many, many small blood vessels called capillaries. As the fish opens its mouth, water runs over the gills, and blood in the capillaries picks up oxygen that's dissolved in the water.

Where are shark gills?

All sharks have five to seven pairs of gills on the side of the head. Gas exchange occurs at the gills and oxygenated water must always be flowing over the gill filaments for respiration to occur.

How do frogs respire?

The frog has three respiratory surfaces on its body that it uses to exchange gas with the surroundings: the skin, in the lungs and on the lining of the mouth. While completely submerged all of the frog's repiration takes place through the skin.

What is branchial and pulmonary respiration?

Pulmonary respiration is the respiration through lungs. For example: Humans, etc. Branchial respiration is the type of respiration which occurs through gills. ... Cutaneous respiration means diffusion of gases through the skin. This type of respiration occurs in insects which have no respiratory organs.

Where is branchial cyst?

Also, known as a cleft sinus, a branchial cleft cyst is a lump that develops in the neck or just below the collarbone. Branchial cleft cysts form during development of the embryo. They occur when tissues in the neck and collarbone area (branchial cleft) fail to develop normally.

What are the 4 types of respiration?

• Pulmonary Ventilation. moving air into and out of the lungs.
• External Respiration.
• Transport. transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the lungs and tissues.
• Internal Respiration. diffusion of gases between the blood of the systemic capillaries and cells.

How do fish respire?

Respiration in fish takes place with the help of gills. Most fish possess gills on either side of their head. Gills are tissues made up of feathery structures called gill filaments providing a large surface area for exchange of gases. ... Fish take in oxygen-rich water via their mouths and pump it over their gills.

What are 2 types of respiration?

There are two main types of cellular respiration—aerobic respiration and anaerobic respiration. Aerobic respiration is a specific type of cellular respiration, in which oxygen (O₂) is required to create ATP.

Which of the following has gills for respiration?

Complete Answer:-Aquatic animals such as molluscs, crustaceans, insects, fish, and amphibians are known to possess 'Gil' or gill-like organs for respiration.

What does the pancreas do in a shark?

The pancreas is both an exocrine gland, producing digestive enzymes and an endocrine gland regulating metabolism.

Is shark a true fish?

It is a true fish that falls under phylum chordata. Therefore, the correct answer is option C. Note: Chondrichthyes are cartilaginous fish, that is, their skeleton is made up of cartilage, rather than bone. All sharks, skates, and rays (e.g., the southern stingray) are cartilaginous fish.

What are sharks deadliest predators?

Think sharks are dangerous? The most dangerous sharks are the Great White shark, the Tiger shark, the Hammerhead shark, the Mako shark and the Bull shark. On average, there are only about 100 shark attacks each year and only 10 of those result in a human death. You should check it out from their perspective, though!

What is the function of gills?

Gills are evaginated respiratory surfaces used for breathing in water. Gills are present in all amphibian larvae and in some aquatic salamanders. They are typically highly branched structures.

What are physical gills?

Physical gills are a type of structural adaptation common among some types of aquatic insects, in which atmospheric oxygen is held within an area into which the spiracles open.

How is the respiratory rhythm of fish identified?

Fish have a central respiratory pattern generator (CRPG) in the brain stem that initiates activity in a series of cranial nerves innervating respiratory muscles. ... Fish, like mammals, show respiratory components in the intrinsic variability of heart rate (HRV).

How does the prawn get oxygen?

EXPLANATION: Prawns take in oxygen through gills. This is because prawns are aquatic animals and all aquatic animals have gills that help them to breathe and take in oxygen. Gills help the prawns to take in oxygen through the 'process of diffusion'.

How is oxygen and carbon dioxide transported in human class 10th?

Answer: Haemoglobin in red blood cells have large affinity for oxygen. It temporarily, combines with oxygen to form oxyhaemoglobin and thus, oxygen is carried from the lungs to various body parts. CO2 is highly soluble in water, so it is mostly transported in dissolved form in our blood plasma.

What is the respiratory organ of mosquito?

Mosquitoes are insects, they have trachea for breathing. They neither breathe through mouth nor through the nose, but oxygen enters their body by small pores called spiracles.
