It is found in many locations worldwide, notably its type locality in Jølster, Sunnfjord, Norway. Other locations include the Ural Mountains of Russia; Sweden; Minas Gerais, Brazil; Ampangabe, Madagascar; Ontario, Canada; and in Arizona, Wyoming and Colorado in the US.

What is euxenite used for?

Euxenite is associated with quartz, feldspars, columbite, tantalite, monazite and other rare earth minerals. Euxenite is used as an ore for its rare earth metals and uranium.

Is euxenite radioactive?

Euxenite is a mineral that is mildly radioactive should be kept away from other gems and minerals which can be subject to harm from radioactivity and of course human exposure must certanly be limited!

Where is xenotime found?

Occurring as a minor accessory mineral, xenotime is found in pegmatites and other igneous rocks, as well as gneisses rich in mica and quartz.

What type of rock is monazite?

Monazite is a rare phosphate mineral with a chemical composition of (Ce,La,Nd,Th)(PO₄,SiO₄). It usually occurs in small isolated grains, as an accessory mineral in igneous and metamorphic rocks such as granite, pegmatite, schist, and gneiss.

Where is monazite sand mainly found in India?

Monazite is an atomic mineral that occurs naturally in the coastal sands of three districts: Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari. It yields a number of rare-earth elements, such as neodymium and praseodymium.

Which mineral is found in monazite?

The thorium mineral sand is contained in the monazite sand.

What is the meaning of xenotime?

: a mineral YPO₄ that is a phosphate of yttrium occurring in usually brown or yellow tetragonal crystals and rolled grains and that often also contains thorium, erbium, cerium, or other elements (hardness 4–5, specific gravity 4.45–4.56)

Is xenotime a mineral?

xenotime, widely distributed phosphate mineral, yttrium phosphate (YPO₄), though large proportions of erbium commonly replace yttrium), that occurs as brown, glassy crystals, crystal aggregates, or rosettes in igneous rocks and associated pegmatites, in quartzose and micaceous gneiss, and commonly in detrital material.

What is pyrochlore structure?

Pyrochlores are ceramics with the cubic fluorite-type structure, and the general chemical formula A2B2O7, where A is a 3+ cation (La3+, Nd3+, Gd3+, Sm3+, Y3+) B is a 4+ cation (e.g., Zr4+, Ti4+, Mo4+), and 1/8th of the oxygen positions are vacant. What is columbite ore?

Columbite, also called niobite, niobite-tantalite and columbate [(Fe, Mn)Nb. ₂O. ₆], is a black mineral group that is an ore of niobium. It has a submetallic luster and a high density and is a niobate of iron and manganese. This mineral group was first found in Haddam, Connecticut, in the United States.

How is serpentinite rock formed?

The serpentinite is formed by the hydrous alteration and low-temperature metamorphic alteration of igneous ultramafic rocks. These rocks are composed of olivine and pyroxene in different ratios to form peridotite and pyroxenite.

Does scheelite glow?

Scheelite's intense fluorescence under SW UV light and X-rays can help distinguish it from other stones of similar appearance. Although they typically glow an intense bluish white or whitish blue, scheelites that contain some Mo can fluoresce a creamy yellow in SW.

What are phosphate minerals used for?

It is the major resource mined to produce phosphate fertilizers for the agriculture sector. Phosphate is also used in animal feed supplements, food preservatives, anti-corrosion agents, cosmetics, fungicides, ceramics, water treatment and metallurgy.

What is the hardness of barite?

The chemical formula for barite is BaSO4. It has a high specific gravity of 4.50 g/cm3. Its Mohs hardness is 3.0 to 3.5. Barite, which may be found in a variety of colors including yellow, brown, white, blue, gray, or even colorless, typically has a vitreous to pearly luster.

Where are minerals usually found?

Minerals can be found throughout the world in the earth's crust but usually in such small amounts that they not worth extracting. Only with the help of certain geological processes are minerals concentrated into economically viable deposits. Mineral deposits can only be extracted where they are found.

In what form are minerals generally found?

Minerals are generally found in ores.

Ores are types of rock formations that produce sufficiently metal to render the extraction economically viable.

Where are uranium and thorium found in India?

Uranium and Thorium are the main atomic minerals. Other atomic minerals are beryllium, lithium and zirconium. Uranium deposits occur in Singhbhum and Hazaribagh districts of Jharkhand, Gaya district of Bihar, and in the sedimentary rocks in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

Where is monazite sand found in Kerala?

Monazite mineral is primarily used as an ore for extracting rare earths particularly cerium and lanthanum. In the present study, the chemistry and distribution of monazite found in the beach sands of Neendakara–Kayamkulam belt in Kerala, south India, is studied using advanced techniques and standardized methods.

Where do you find monazite sand?

It is often found in placer deposits. India, Madagascar, and South Africa have large deposits of monazite sands. The deposits in India are particularly rich in monazite. Monazite is radioactive due to the presence of thorium and, less commonly, uranium.

In which state monazite sand is found?

The soil in Kerala is acidic, having high phosphate capacity and low water holding capacity, and has the largest reserves of monazite in India. The monazite found is high in thorium content. Hence, this is the correct option.

Where is scheelite found in Australia?

Scheelite. Australia's largest scheelite (calcium tungstate) deposit was found by Thomas Farrell in 1904, on King Island. The deposit was world class in terms of size, containing 17 million tonnes of 0.85 percent tungstate. The mineralisation is associated with granitic plutons of Devonian age.

What color is gold under UV light?

While gold itself is not fluorescent and does not show up under black light, many materials that surround gold are, and these materials are what will allow you to use your black light to find the source.
