Is pyrophyllite a rock or mineral?
Pyrophyllite, very soft, pale-coloured silicate mineral, hydrated aluminum silicate, Al2(OH)2 Si4O10, that is the main constituent of some schistose rocks. The most extensive commercial deposits are in North Carolina, but pyrophyllite is also mined in California, China, India, Thailand, Japan, Korea, and South Africa.
Is pyrophyllite a clay mineral?
Pyrophyllite is a dioctahedral clay mineral containing Al3+ in octahedral positions while talc is a trioctahedral clay mineral with mainly Mg2+ in octahedral sheets. Only Si4+ occupies the tetrahedral sites in both minerals.

How do you identify sillimanite?
Sillimanite is a metamorphic mineral found in high grade aluminous schists and gneisses. It is a polymorph of andalusite and kyanite, all having formula Al2SiO5. Keys to identification are high relief, needle-like, fibrous or bladed habit, characteristic square cross sections with one diagonal cleavage.
Where is Ulexite found?

Why is fluorite a mineral?
Fluorite (also called fluorspar) is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, CaF2. It belongs to the halide minerals. ... Pure fluorite is transparent, both in visible and ultraviolet light, but impurities usually make it a colorful mineral and the stone has ornamental and lapidary uses.
Where can I find Wavellite in Arkansas?
It is found in a wide variety of locations notably in the Mount Ida, Arkansas area in the Ouachita Mountains. It's named after the English physician who first discovered it, William Wavell. When broken across the spheres, wavellite exhibits a radial crystalline structure - the local old timers call it "cats-eye".
