what is the function of protoplasm? Protoplasm contains the genetic material of a cell. It also controls the activity of the cell. The first component of the protoplasm is the cytoplasm, which in eukaryotes exists between the cell membrane and the nucleus.

What is protoplasm short answer?

Protoplasm is the living contents of a cell that is surrounded by a plasma membrane. It is a general term for the cytoplasm. Protoplasm is composed of a mixture of small molecules such asions, amino acids, monosaccharides and water, and macromolecules such as nucleic acids, proteins, lipids and polysaccharides.

What is protoplasm and why it is important?

Protoplasm refers to the living substance which makes up a cell. Biologists tend to speak about the cell nucleus and the cytoplasm. It is surrounded in plant cells by a cell wall. The entire cell of animal cells is made of protoplasm, surrounded by a cell membrane.

What is known as protoplasm?

Protoplasm (/prəʊtə(ʊ)ˌplaz(ə)m/, plural protoplasms) is the living part of a cell that is surrounded by a plasma membrane. In some definitions, it is a general term for the cytoplasm (e.g., Mohl, 1846), but for others, it also includes the nucleoplasm (e.g., Strasburger, 1882).

What is the function of cytoplasm?

The cytoplasm is the gel-like fluid inside the cell. It is the medium for chemical reaction. It provides a platform upon which other organelles can operate within the cell. All of the functions for cell expansion, growth and replication are carried out in the cytoplasm of a cell.

What are 3 major functions of the cytoplasm?

• The cytoplasm functions to support and suspend organelles and cellular molecules.
• Many cellular processes also occur in the cytoplasm, such as protein synthesis, the first stage of cellular respiration (known as glycolysis), mitosis, and meiosis.

What is cytoplasm and its function Class 9?

Cytoplasm consist of an aqueous ground substance called Cytosol which contain variety of cell organelles.,insoluble waste, storage products. Functions. 1)It act as a store of vital chemicals. 2)It is a site of certain metabolic pathways.

What is protoplasm Class 9?

Hint: Protoplasm is considered as the living part of the cell. It comprises different cellular organelles. It is a jelly-like, colorless, transparent, and viscous living substance present within the cell wall.

What is protoplasm with example?

The protoplasm is the cell's living content. It is composed primarily of biomolecules such as nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. It also has inorganic salts and water molecules. The protoplasm is surrounded by the cell membrane.

What is difference between protoplasm and cytoplasm?

While Cytoplasm is surrounding the nucleus in a cell. The cytoplasm contains organelles, Cytosol, enzymes, proteins Whereas, the Protoplasm contains Cytoplasm and nucleus. The cytoplasm is composed of water, salt, and protein whereas the Protoplasm is composed of liquids, carbohydrates, proteins, and a nucleus.

What is protoplasm Class 8 Ncert?

Answer: Protoplasm is the entire content of a living cell. It includes the cytoplasm and the nucleus of a cell.

Is protoplasm colloid or suspension?

Protoplasm is a colloidal solution. It is a general term used for the living substance of cells which is enclosed by the plasma membrane.

What is protoplasm in biology class 11?

The protoplasm contains the living material of the cell. It consists predominantly of biomolecules such as nucleic acids, sugars, proteins, and lipids. It has inorganic salts and molecules of water as well. The cell membrane encloses the protoplasm.

What is protoplasm Brainly?

Answer: Protoplasm is the living part of cell. It is the content of the cell including the cell membrane, cytoplasm and the nucleus.

What is protoplasm what are its constituents?

Protoplasm is composed of a mixture of small molecules such as ions, amino acids, monosaccharides and water, and macromolecules such as nucleic acids, proteins, lipids and polysaccharides. In eukaryotes the protoplasm surrounding the cell nucleus is known as the cytoplasm and that inside the nucleus as the nucleoplasm.

What is the cytoplasm definition?

Cytoplasm is a thick solution that fills each cell and is enclosed by the cell membrane. It is mainly composed of water, salts, and proteins. ... All of the organelles in eukaryotic cells, such as the nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, and mitochondria, are located in the cytoplasm.

Who termed protoplasm?

The word protoplasm was coined by Hugo von Mohl in order to designate certain active contents of the vegetable cell.

What is protoplasm Byjus?

Protoplast is defined as the plasmalemma which is present in every cellulosic cell wall of the plant cell. Protoplasts are the isolated cells whose cell wall is removed and are bounded by plasmalemma.

What is cytoplasm Class 9 short answer?

Cytoplasm is a jelly-like substance between the nucleus and the cell membrane. Various cell organelles like ribosomes, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, etc.

What do you mean by semi permeable membrane class 9?

A semipermeable membrane is a membrane that only allows movement of solvent molecules but restrict movement of solute particles across the membrane.

What is called cortex of cytoplasm?

The cell cortex, also known as the actin cortex or actomyosin cortex, is a specialized layer of cytoplasmic proteins on the inner face of the cell membrane. It functions as a modulator of membrane behavior and cell surface properties. ... Spectrin helps to create a network by cross-linked actin filaments.

What are the 5 cell structures?

• cell walls.
• mitochondria.
• chloroplasts.
• cell membrane.
• vacuole.
• nucleus.
• ribosomes.
• plasmids.

Why is protoplasm polyphasic?

The protoplasm is a polyphasic collodial system. The collodial system of protoplasm contain abundance of water in which certain solutes remain dissolved and certain solute particles of various size remain suspended in it. These particles are of two kinds i.e. hydrophobic and hydrophilic.

What is absent in protoplast?

Protoplasts are cells with the plasma membrane, cytoplasm and nucleus, which have had their cell wall removed by the action of enzymes.
