Meristematic tissues, or simply meristems, are tissues in which the cells remain forever young and divide actively throughout the life of the plant. ... A plant has four kinds of meristems: the apical meristem and three kinds of lateral—vascular cambium, cork cambium, and intercalary meristem.

What is meristematic tissue and its types Class 9?

Meristematic tissue has the ability to divide and redivide to provide growth to plants. Generally, growth of plants occurs from specific region like root and shoot, nodes, girth of stem, leaf base etc. ... Types of meristematic tissue are apical meristem, Intercalary meristem, lateral meristem.

What is meristematic tissue write its type?

The meristem is a type of tissue found in plants. It consists of undifferentiated cells (meristematic cells) capable of cell division. Cells in the meristem can develop into all the other tissues and organs that occur in plants. ... Differentiated plant cells generally cannot divide or produce cells of a different type.

What is meristematic tissue explain its types along with diagram?

Meristematic tissues are classified into following three types depending upon their position in the plant body: (i) Apical meristems: They are present at the tip of stems (shoot apex) and roots (root apex) and also in apices of leaves. ... (iii) Intercalary meristems: They are located at the base of leaves or internodes.

What are the three types of meristematic tissue write their functions?

• Apical meristem- It is present at the girth of stems and roots .
• Intercalary meristem- It is at the base of the leaves or internode on twig.
• Lateral meristem- The girth of stem or root increase due to it.

What are meristems explain different types of meristematic tissues in plants and mention their functions?

There are three types of meristem which are differentiated based on position of the meristem are apical meristem, intercalary meristem and lateral meristem. These meristems perform different activities based on their location. Apical meristem is located at the tip of roots, stem and branches.

What do you mean by Meristematic tissues What are the various types of meristems give one function of each?

Meristematic tissues contain living cells with varied shapes. ... The cells of the meristematic tissue divide actively to form specialized structures such as buds of leaves and flowers, tips of roots and shoots, etc. These cells help to increase the length and girth of the plant.

What is meristematic tissue Short answer?

A plant tissue that has the power to divide itself actively throughout its life is called a Meristematic Tissue.

What is meristematic tissue with example?

An example of a primary meristem is the apical meristem. Apical meristems are meristematic tissues located in the apices of plant, e.g. root apex and shoot apex.

What is meristematic tissue state its different types show their location in diagram of a plant body give classification of meristems?

Apical meristem is present at the growingtips of stems and roots and increases thelength of the stem and the root. The girth of the stem or root increases due to lateral meristem (cambium). Intercalary meristem seen in some plants is located near the node.

What are meristems write the types of meristems?

There are three primary meristems: the protoderm, which will become the epidermis; the ground meristem, which will form the ground tissues comprising parenchyma, collenchyma, and sclerenchyma cells; and the procambium, which will become the vascular tissues (xylem and phloem).

What is meristematic tissue give characters of meristematic cells describe different types of meristematic tissues?

Meristematic tissue has a number of defining features, including small cells, thin cell walls, large cell nuclei, absent or small vacuoles, and no intercellular spaces. The apical meristem (the growing tip) functions to trigger the growth of new cells in young seedlings at the tips of roots and shoots and forming buds.

What is meristematic tissue class 9 Brainly?

Answer: The meristem is a type of tissue found in plants. It consists of undifferentiated cells (meristematic cells) capable of cell division. Cells in the meristem can develop into all the other tissues and organs that occur in plants.

How do the locations and the functions of the three types of meristematic tissues compare?

How do the locations and the functions of the three types of meristematic tissues compare? ... Apical meristems found at nodes and bases of leaf blades promote growth by elongation; lateral meristems found in the vascular and cork cambia promote increase in girth and intercalary.

What is Meristematic tissue class 9 answer?

Answer: Meristematic tissue consists of cells that are capable of division and possesses totipotency—that is, capability to give rise to all cell types of the body. Its cells divide and help in increasing the length and girth of the plant. ... They increase the diameter of stems and roots and the girth of the plant.

What is Meristematic tissue in Brainly?

Answer: Meristematic tissues contain living cells with varied shapes. The cells have no intercellular space. The zone where these cells exist is known as meristem. The cells of the meristematic tissue divide actively to form specialized structures such as buds of leaves and flowers, tips of roots and shoots, etc.

What is intercalary meristem?

: a meristem developing between regions of mature or permanent tissue (as at the base of the grass leaf) — compare apical meristem, lateral meristem.

What are the characters of meristematic tissue?

• They are composed of immature cells. ...
• Absence of intercellular spaces.
• Cells are oval, rounded or polygonal in shape.
• Cells are always living and thin walled.
• Cells are rich in cytoplasm with minute vacuoles. ...
• Cell is diploid and shows mitotic cell division.

What are meristematic tissues and permanent tissue?

Meristematic tissue cells are either undifferentiated or incompletely differentiated, and they continue to divide and contribute to the growth of the plant. In contrast, permanent tissue consists of plant cells that are no longer actively dividing.

Is meristematic tissue a simple tissue?

Plant Tissue – Meristematic – Simple, Complex Permanent Tissue.

What is meristem state the location and function of different types of meristem?

Meristems are of three types depending on their location. It is present at the root apex and the shoot apex. The shoot apical meristem is present at the tip of the shoots and its active division results in the elongation of the stem and formation of new leaves. The root apical meristem helps in root elongation.

What is meristematic tissue state their different types their function and location?

They are the specialized region of plant growth since they are actively involved in the cell division. Apical meristem: These meristems are present at the tip regions of root, shoot, and leaves. They are the active regions in the cell division which helps in the growth and the elongation of root and shoot.

What are meristematic tissues for Class 7?

Meristematic tissues are the plant tissues which are made up of actively dividing cells. These tissues actively divide and lead to the growth of the plant body. They are found at the growth points of the plant like tips of root, stem and branches etc. Cells are small with thin cell walls.

What are non meristematic tissues?

There are two types of plant tissues: meristematic tissue found in plant regions of continuous cell division and growth, and permanent (or non-meristematic) tissue consisting of cells that are no longer actively dividing.

How are Meristematic tissues different from permanent tissue class 9?

Meristematic tissue always has a prominent nucleus. Permanent tissue has a prominent nucleus in some like parenchyma while not in others like sclerenchyma. ... Meristematic tissue has cells small in size and isodiametric in shape. Permanent tissue has cells large in size and their shape varies.
