A hyetograph is a graphical representation of the distribution of rainfall intensity over time.

What is hyetograph and hydrograph?

As nouns the difference between hyetograph and hydrograph

is that hyetograph is a graphical representation of rainfall over time while hydrograph is a graph of flow past a point in a river versus time.

What is design hyetograph?

A design hyetograph is a synthetic rainfall temporal pattern associated with a return period, usually determined by means of statistical analysis of observed mean rainfall intensity through intensity—duration—frequency (IDF) curves.

What are the uses of hyetograph?

 The hyetograph is a bar diagram.  The area under the hyetograph gives the total rainfall occurred in that period.  This chart is very useful in representing the characteristics of storm, and is particularly important in developing the design storm to predict extreme floods.

What is Hythergraph Wikipedia?

Noun. hythergraph (plural hythergraphs) (climatology) A plotted graph showing the relationships between precipitation and temperature.

What is unit hyetograph?

Unit hydrograph is a direct runoff hydrograph resulting from one unit (one inch or one cm) of constant intensity uniform rainfall occurring over the entire watershed. The concept of unit hydrograph is based on linear systems theory and follow the principles of superposition and proportionality.

What is meant by hythergraph?

A type of climatic diagram where the coordinates are some form of temperature versus a form of humidity or precipitation. A common, specific use is to show the annual "march" of mean monthly values of temperature and precipitation at a given station. Also, a comfort chart may be considered a hythergraph.

How do you make a hyetograph?

One can generate such a representation in MS Excel by selecting the 'Excess Rainfall Hyetograph (in)' column, and apply the 'Insert' --> 'Charts/Column/2D' option. Right click on the chart area, and go to 'Select Data', and edit the 'horizontal axis labels' by selecting the range of data in 'Time (h)' column.

What is Baseflow in geography?

The base flow is the water that reaches the channel through slow throughflow and permeable rock below the water table. As storm water enters the drainage basin the discharge rates increase. ... The highest flow in the channel is known as the peak discharge.

What is Isohyetal method?

The isohyetal method is used to estimate the mean precipitation across an area by drawing lines of equal precipitation. The method uses topographic and other data to yield reliable estimates. Isohyets are contours of equal precipitation analogous to contour lines on a topographic map.

What is hyetograph give a brief description of mass curve rainfall with net sketch?

A hyetograph is a plot of the intensity of rainfall against the time in the hyetograph is derived from the mass curve and is usually represented as a bar chart (Fig. 6.2). ... The area under a hyetograph represents the total precipitation received in that period.

What is effective rainfall hyetograph?

Effective rainfall - sometimes called excess rainfall - is the component of the storm hyetograph which is neither retained on the land surface nor which infiltrates into the soil. The effective rainfall produces overland flow that results in the direct runoff hydrograph from a sub-area of a catchment.

What is rainfall intensity?

Rainfall intensity is defined as the ratio of the total amount of rain (rainfall depth) falling during a given period to the duration of the period It is expressed in depth units per unit time, usually as mm per hour (mm/h).

What is rain gauge and hyetograph?

The time history of rainfall at a point is known as a hyetograph, and is useful in hydraulic design of separate or combined sanitary sewers, and in stormwater modeling. Synthesized from radar and rain gauge analysis, these hyetographs represent expected distribution of rainfall over time.

What is point rainfall?

[′pȯint ′rān‚fȯl] (meteorology) The rainfall during a given time interval (or often one storm) measured in a rain gage, or an estimate of the amount which might have been measured at a given point.

What is unit hydrograph theory?

The role of unit hydrograph theory in the flood prediction process is to provide an estimate of streamflow that results from a given amount precipitation. A unit hydrograph shows the temporal change in flow, or discharge, per excess unit of precipitation runoff.

What is Baseflow in a river?

What is baseflow? Baseflow is a portion of streamflow that is not directly generated from the excess rainfall during a storm event. In other words, this is the flow that would exist in the stream without the contribution of direct runoff from the rainfall.

What does overland flow mean?

Overland flow is considered as natural flowing waters that flow through properties via their natural valleys. ... The worst flooding occurs after prolonged rainfall when the soil is saturated and the water levels in the rivers and creeks are elevated.

What is Baseflow in the water cycle?

Base flow is a portion of the stream flow that is not runoff; it is water from the ground, flowing into the channel over a long time and with a certain delay.

How do you convert a hydrograph to a hyetograph?

The procedure to convert a rainfall excess hyetograph to a rainfall excess hydrograph is explained in the quote at the start of the blog. We need to: Multiply the rainfall excess by the catchment area (converts rainfall to a volume) Divide by the time step (to calculate volume per unit time)

What is alternating block method?

The alternating block method is a method to make the rainfall temporal distribution (design hyetograph) using the rainfall intensity-duration-frequency (I-D-F) curve. ... The rainfall intensity data can then be obtained as the difference between the successive cumulative rainfall depths.

What is a Climatograph?

Climate graphs show average rainfall and temperatures typically experienced in a particular location. The temperature is shown on a line graph, and rainfall on a bar graph. They are usually represented on the same set of axes with the months of the year along the base.

How do you read a Hythergraph?

1. It is a graph plotted or climatic diagram to indicate the relationship between precipitation and temperature. It is used to measure the average values of temperature and precipitation in a particular region on a monthly basis.
2. The graph will be plotted as temperature versus precipitation.

Who introduced Hythergraph?

Hythergraph meaning

(climatology) A plotted graph showing the relationships between precipitation and temperature. Invented by Griffith Taylor in 1916, and first documented in his The Australian Environment, Government Printer, Melbourne.
