Euchromatin is a lightly packed form of chromatin (DNA, RNA, and protein) that is enriched in genes, and is often (but not always) under active transcription. Euchromatin comprises the most active portion of the genome within the cell nucleus.

What does heterochromatic nucleus mean?

Heterochromatin is a form of chromatin that is densely packed—as opposed to euchromatin, which is lightly packed—and is found in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells.

Is the nucleus Euchromatic vs heterochromatic?

The DNA in the nucleus exists in two forms that reflect the level of activity of the cell. ... Euchromatin is prevalent in cells that are active in the transcription of many of their genes while heterochromatin is most abundant in cells that are less active or not active.

What does condensed nucleus mean?

: a small particle (as of dust) upon which water vapor condenses in the atmosphere.

What is Euchromatic region in chromosome?

The euchromatin is a constant size region and includes sequences homologous to the X chromosome, Y-specific repetitive sequences, and all the genes identified in the Y chromosome, which include the now identified 27 distinct protein-coding genes or gene families.

Heterochromatin vs Euchromatin

What is the importance of Euchromatic of chromosome?

Euchromatin participates in the active transcription of DNA to mRNA products. The unfolded structure allows gene regulatory proteins and RNA polymerase complexes to bind to the DNA sequence, which can then initiate the transcription process.

What do u mean by euchromatin?

Euchromatin is the genetically active region of the chromosome. It contains structural genes that are replicated during G1 and S phase of interphase by allowing polymerases to access the genes. ¹.

How long do condensation nuclei last?

Cloud Condensation Nuclei

Static thermal diffusion chambers hold air samples at a single supersaturation for approximately 20 s and then the air sample is replaced.

Why is condensation nuclei important?

The formation of clouds, fog, or haze requires the assistance of condensation nuclei. ... Condensation nuclei provide the non-gaseous surface necessary for water vapor to condense into cloud droplets. As droplets join together they grow larger and eventually fall as precipitation.

What happens during the metaphase?

During metaphase, the cell's chromosomes align themselves in the middle of the cell through a type of cellular "tug of war." The chromosomes, which have been replicated and remain joined at a central point called the centromere, are called sister chromatids.

What is Euchromatic and heterochromatic?

Euchromatin is the lightly packed form of chromatin, whereas heterochromatin refers to the condensed form. Image Credit: molekuul_be / Shutterstock. Euchromatin and heterochromatin are functionally and structurally distinct, and have key roles in the transcription and expression of genes.

What is the difference between heterochromatin & euchromatin?

Heterochromatin and euchromatin are two major categories of chromatin higher order structure. Heterochromatin has condensed chromatin structure and is inactive for transcription, while euchromatin has loose chromatin structure and active for transcription.

Why is euchromatin more transcriptionally active?

The two types of chromatin, heterochromatin and euchromatin, are functionally and structurally distinct regions of the genome. ... Euchromatin, on the other hand, is less condensed, more accessible, and therefore transcriptionally active (Hennig 1999).

What does transcriptionally active mean?

Term: transcriptionally active chromatin. Definition: The ordered and organized complex of DNA and protein that forms regions of the chromosome that are being actively transcribed.

Which is more condensed euchromatin or heterochromatin?

Heterochromatin is more condensed than euchromatin. Typically, the more condensed chromatin is, the less accessible it is by transcription factors and polymerases. ... For example, chromatin can be loosened by changing the position of the DNA strands within a nucleosome.

Is euchromatin loosely packed?

The lightly stained, loosely packed regions of chromatin that are rich in gene concentrations is called Euchromatin. It covers the maximum part of the genome inside the nucleus. Their structure resembles nucleosomes which contain histone proteins wrapped around by 147 base pairs of DNA around them.

Is smoke a condensation nuclei?

They consist of such things as smoke particles from fires or volcanoes, ocean spray or tiny specks of wind-blown soil. ... Called "cloud condensation nuclei", these water-molecule-attracting particles are about 1/100th the size of a cloud droplet upon which water condenses.

What are examples of condensation nuclei?

Examples of cloud condensation nuclei include sodium chloride (NaCl) and ammonium sulfate ([NH₄]₂ SO₂), whereas the clay mineral kaolinite is an example of an ice nuclei.

What is cloud condensation?

Condensation is the process of water vapor turning back into liquid water, with the best example being those big, fluffy clouds floating over your head. And when the water droplets in clouds combine, they become heavy enough to form raindrops to rain down onto your head.

Where do condensation nuclei come from?

Most condensation nuclei are produced by natural and man-made fires over land and by wave action over the oceans. When mixed with the more hygroscopic material, dust and soil particles blown into the atmosphere also are sources of nuclei.

What would happen if there are no condensation nuclei?

With no condensation nuclei present, adding moisture to this air will not produce condensation. Eventually spontaneously condensation will occur when the moisture amount is extremely high with the relative humidity much higher than 100%. ... Deposition is moisture going from the vapor state to the solid state.

Which type of aerosols most effectively serve as cloud condensation nuclei?

In fact, most clouds owe their existence to aerosols that serve as the tiny “seeds,” called cloud condensation nuclei. Natural aerosols—often sulfates, sea salt or ammonium salts—are the most common condensation nuclei in pristine environments.

Is euchromatin a metaphase chromosome?

Euchromatin Structure

In this figure, the DNA on the left side is condensed into progressively denser structures as we move rightwards, until we reach the densest conformation—the metaphase chromosome that we are used to seeing in micrographs. ... This methylated lysine 4 is therefore used as a marker for euchromatin.

Is euchromatin methylated?

Euchromatin is typically enriched in acetylated histones and methylation of H3K4, H3K36, and H3K79, whilst heterochromatin is characterized by histone hypoacetylation, a high level of methylation on H3K9, H3K27, and H4K20 and association of heterochromatin protein-1 (HP1) [121,122].

What is epigenetic expression?

Epigenetics is the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect the way your genes work. ... Gene expression refers to how often or when proteins are created from the instructions within your genes.
