Just like all the spinotransverse muscles, semispinalis thoracis is innervated by the medial branches of the posterior rami of adjacent spinal nerves. Dorsal branches of the posterior intercostal arteries provide its blood supply.

What is Semispinalis capitis innervated by?

Semispinalis capitis muscle receives its innervation through the greater occipital nerve (posterior ramus of C2 spinal nerve) and spinal nerve C3. Blood supply comes from the occipital artery that arises from the external carotid artery.

What nerve supplies Semispinalis capitis?

Cervical dorsal rami

The suboccipital nerve supplies the muscles of the suboccipital triangle and the semispinalis capitis. Sometimes it has a cutaneous branch that joins the greater or lesser occipital nerves.

What innervated Semispinalis Cervicis?

The SPL is innervated from the lateral branch of the lateral rami, while the semispinalis cervicis muscle (SSCer) receives nerve supply from the medial branch of the medial rami (Figure 28.7).

What is the action of the semispinalis thoracis?

The semispinalis thoracis extends your spine, rotates it towards the side of your body that is opposite from this muscle, and performs ipsilateral flexion.

What Innervates Interspinales?

The interspinales muscles are innervated by the medial branches of the posterior primary divisions of spinal nerves. The interspinales muscles function to extend the spine and may act as proprioceptive organs (Bogduk, 2005).

Is the Semispinalis Thoracis deep to the multifidus?

Multifidus muscle lies deep to the semispinalis and spans the whole length of the vertebral column, it is most developed in the lumbar region. It originates from the transverse process and crosses between 2 and 4 vertebra to attach in the spinous process.

What Innervates the Splenius capitis?

The splenius capitis muscle is innervated by the posterior ramus of spinal nerves C3 and C4.

Is semispinalis the same as spinalis?

Sitting deep to semispinalis thoracis are the rotatores and levatores costarum, while superficially it is covered by the spinalis thoracis (erector spinae group). Just like all the spinotransverse muscles, semispinalis thoracis is innervated by the medial branches of the posterior rami of adjacent spinal nerves.

What does capitis refer to?

a Latin word meaning "of the head," used in the names of some muscles that are connected to the head.

What Innervates the rectus capitis posterior major?

Rectus capitis posterior major muscle, along with the other suboccipital muscles and semispinalis capitis, are innervated by suboccipital nerve (the first cervical posterior ramus).

What is longissimus capitis?

Longissimus capitis is the part of the longest muscle of the neck, which serves to rotate the head from side to side and extend the head.

What is the innervation of Splenius Cervicis?

Innervation. Splenius cervicis muscle is innervated by the lateral branches of the posterior rami of the lower cervical spinal nerves.

Where does the Suboccipital nerve come from?

Course: The suboccipital nerve is the dorsal ramus of the first cervical nerve. It emerges from the central canal to travel between the posterior arch of C1 inferiorly and the vertebral artery superiorly.

What is the Suboccipital triangle?

The suboccipital triangles are a paired triangular-shaped space formed by the configuration of three paired muscles in the posterior neck between the occipital bone, C1 and C2.

Where is Spinalis?

spinalis muscle, any of the deep muscles of the back near the vertebral column that, as part of the erector spinae (sacrospinalis) muscle group, assist in extension (e.g., bending backward), lateral flexion (bending to the side), and rotation of the spine.

What is the origin of the spinalis?

The spinalis is the body's most medial, or closest to the midline of the body, deep back muscle and originates at the spinous processes (bony projections at the back of each vertebra) of the lower spinal vertebrae.

What are the 3 spinalis muscles?

The spinalis is a portion of the erector spinae, a bundle of muscles and tendons, located nearest to the spine. It is divided into three parts: Spinalis dorsi, spinalis cervicis, and spinalis capitis.

What nerve Innervates the multifidus?

The most medial of the paraspinal muscles, the multifidus, has an important role in intervertebral stability. It is innervated by the medial branch nerve (MBN) of the posterior ramus of the spinal nerve at each level, which exits the spinal canal supero-lateral to the facet joint [1].

What is the lever of splenius capitis?

First class lever; a see-saw; the semispinalas capitis and the splenius capitis use the occipital condyles as a fulcrum to raise the from to of the head when they contract. Second-class; wheelbarrow; the quadriceps muscles of the anterior thigh elevate the knee when contracted. The hip joint is the fulcrum.

What is the Sternocleidomastoid?

Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) (synonym musculus sternocleidomastoideus) is a paired superficial muscle in the anterior portion of the neck. The sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) is an important landmark in the neck which divides it into an anterior and a posterior triangle.

Why does my Semispinalis capitis hurt?

The onset of pain is often caused by motor vehicular trauma, blunt trauma, falls, and, in particular, postural situations where superior and inferior lateral oblique movements of the head on the neck occur.

What is Multifidi?

Anatomical terms of muscle

The multifidus (multifidus spinae : pl. multifidi ) muscle consists of a number of fleshy and tendinous fasciculi, which fill up the groove on either side of the spinous processes of the vertebrae, from the sacrum to the axis.

What is the Sacrospinalis?

The erector spinae muscle, also known as sacrospinalis and extensor spinae in some texts is from the deep muscles of the back. ... It lies in the groove to the side of the vertebral column. In cervical region it is covered by nuchal ligament and in thoracic and lumber region by thoracolumbar fascia.

What is the deepest muscle of the back?

The intermediate layer contains the large erector spinae muscles which are sometimes called the long muscles of the back. This muscle group is the largest of the deep back muscles and lies on either side of the vertebral column between the spinous processes of the vertebrae and the angles of the ribs.
