Explanation: Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ER) synthesizes lipids and detoxifies harmful substances.

What part of the cell detoxifies?

The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is also responsible for detoxifying the cell. It is more tubular than the rough endoplasmic reticulum, and is not necessarily continuous with the nuclear envelope.

In which cells Ser detoxifies many poisons and drugs?

Explanation: SER plays an important role in detoxifying many poisons and drugs in the liver cells of vertebrates.

What organelle detoxifies alcohol?

Some types of peroxisomes, such as those in liver cells, detoxify alcohol and other harmful compounds by transferring hydrogen from the poisons to molecules of oxygen (a process termed oxidation).

What does smooth ER do?

The smooth endoplasmic reticulum functions in many metabolic processes. It synthesizes lipids, phospholipids as in plasma membranes, and steroids. ... The smooth endoplasmic reticulum also carries out the metabolism of carbohydrates and steroids.

Smoth endoplasmic reticulum detoxifies many poisons and drugs.

What does the vacuole do?

A vacuole is a membrane-bound cell organelle. In animal cells, vacuoles are generally small and help sequester waste products. In plant cells, vacuoles help maintain water balance. Sometimes a single vacuole can take up most of the interior space of the plant cell.

What does the ribosome do?

Ribosomes are the sites in a cell in which protein synthesis takes place. Cells have many ribosomes, and the exact number depends on how active a particular cell is in synthesizing proteins.

What is peroxisome organelle?

Peroxisomes are small, membrane-enclosed organelles (Figure 10.24) that contain enzymes involved in a variety of metabolic reactions, including several aspects of energy metabolism.

What do the peroxisomes do?

Peroxisomes are specialized for carrying out oxidative reactions using molecular oxygen. They generate hydrogen peroxide, which they use for oxidative purposes—destroying the excess by means of the catalase they contain.

What is Golgi apparatus function?

The Golgi apparatus, or Golgi complex, functions as a factory in which proteins received from the ER are further processed and sorted for transport to their eventual destinations: lysosomes, the plasma membrane, or secretion. In addition, as noted earlier, glycolipids and sphingomyelin are synthesized within the Golgi.

What is silver nitrate used to study?

Silver nitrate solution is used for studying the Golgi Apparatus. Golgi apparatus is an organelle that is present in eukaryotic cells which consists of a stack of flattened sacs. Other names used for Golgi Apparatus are Golgi Complex, Golgi body or Golgi.

Which organelle of the cell is involved in detoxification of drugs and poisons and storage of calcium ions?

Functions of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum include synthesis of carbohydrates, lipids, and steroid hormones; detoxification of medications and poisons; and storage of calcium ions.

Which one of the following is called the digestive bag or suicidal bag?

The lysosomes are known as digestive bags or suicidal bags or recycling centers or scavengers of cells because of the following properties: -The lysosomal vesicles contain almost 40 different types of hydrolases, for example, lipases, carbohydrases, proteases, etc.

Which cell organelle detoxifies drugs?

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ER) synthesizes lipids and detoxifies harmful substances.

What is detoxification in a cell?

Cellular detoxification and cleansing is a detox process that is more comprehensive than many of the others in that it involves removing harmful toxins at the cellular level. This helps with the removal of toxins that accumulate in the body, but aren't necessarily a result of foods ingested.

Which of the following organelles neutralizes toxic compound during cell metabolism?

Peroxisomes. Peroxisomes neutralize harmful toxins and carry out lipid metabolism and oxidation reactions that break down fatty acids and amino acids.

What happens if the peroxisome is defective?

A peroxisome protein is involved in preventing one cause of kidney stones. In plants a type of peroxisome converts fatty acids to carbohydrates. Several rare inherited malfunctions of peroxisomes can lead to death.

What does peroxisome do in a plant cell?

Peroxisomes are the sole site of fatty acid β-oxidation in plant cells and are involved in generating two phytohormones: IAA and JA. They play an important role in photorespiration in conjunction with mitochondria and chloroplasts.

What is the role of peroxisomes in eukaryotic cells?

Peroxisome, membrane-bound organelle occurring in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells. ... Peroxisomes contain enzymes that oxidize certain molecules normally found in the cell, notably fatty acids and amino acids. Those oxidation reactions produce hydrogen peroxide, which is the basis of the name peroxisome.

What is Zellweger's disease?

Zellweger syndrome is a genetic disorder passed from parents to children. It disturbs cellular function and causes serious problems soon after birth. Newborns can have brain, liver and kidney problems, as well as difficulty feeding or moving. There is no cure or treatment.

What disorders are caused when peroxisomes in humans are not functioning properly?

Some hallmark symptoms of peroxisomal disorders include hearing and vision loss, hypotonia, neurological issues, seizures, developmental delay, feeding issues, adrenal insufficiency, leukodystrophy, and liver, kidney, and bone disease.

What are the chemical reaction take place in cytoplasm?

Glycolysis takes place in the cytoplasm. Within the mitochondrion, the citric acid cycle occurs in the mitochondrial matrix, and oxidative metabolism occurs at the internal folded mitochondrial membranes (cristae).

What's a ribosome in a cell?

The ribosome is a complex molecule made of ribosomal RNA molecules and proteins that form a factory for protein synthesis in cells. ... The ribosome is responsible for translating encoded messages from messenger RNA molecules to synthesize proteins from amino acids.

What are ribosomes in a cell?

A ribosome is a cellular particle made of RNA and protein that serves as the site for protein synthesis in the cell. The ribosome reads the sequence of the messenger RNA (mRNA) and, using the genetic code, translates the sequence of RNA bases into a sequence of amino acids.

What makes ribosomes in a cell?

Eukaryote ribosomes are produced and assembled in the nucleolus. Ribosomal proteins enter the nucleolus and combine with the four rRNA strands to create the two ribosomal subunits (one small and one large) that will make up the completed ribosome (see Figure 1).
