stere, metric unit of volume equal to one cubic metre, or 1,000 litres. The stere (from Greek stereos, “solid”) was originally defined by law and used in France in 1793, primarily as a measure for firewood.

What unit is firewood sold in?

The cord is a unit of measure of dry volume used to measure firewood and pulpwood in the United States and Canada. A cord is the amount of wood that, when "racked and well stowed" (arranged so pieces are aligned, parallel, touching and compact), occupies a volume of 128 cubic feet (3.62 m³).

What is an example of a cubic meter?

A cubic meter is a space in the shape of a cube 1 m on a side or the equivalent. For example, a rectangular box with a length of 2 m, a width of 1 m, and a height of 0.5 m would have a volume of 1 m³ (1 × 2 × 0.5 = 1).

What is the area of 1 cubic meter?

A cubic metre (m3 or CBM) is a just another way of saying a block of space that measures 1m x 1m x 1m, height x width x depth. This calculation gives you a far more accurate indication of volume which translates to how much space you will require on a truck.

What cubic meter means?

: a unit of volume equal to a cube one meter long on each side : stere.

How to Calculate Cubic Meters

What is a cubic millimeter?

A cubic millimeter (mm³) was a unit of volume defined as a cube measuring one millimeter on each side. One cubic millimeter was equal to one microliter.

How big are cubic meters?

As we learned, a cubic meter is a unit of volume measurement that's 1 meter wide, 1 meter in height, and 1 meter in depth. Remember that volume, in this case, is the amount of stuff we can fit into that cube.

How much is cubic meter of soil?

How much does a cubic meter of soil weigh? The weight of soil can vary enormously based on the volume of water it contains. One cubic metre of moderately damp soil (as freshly dug) soil weighs 1.3- 1.7 tonnes when dug, depending on how tightly packed it is.

How much wood is in a Stere?

stere, metric unit of volume equal to one cubic metre, or 1,000 litres. The stere (from Greek stereos, “solid”) was originally defined by law and used in France in 1793, primarily as a measure for firewood.

What does a 1/2 cord of wood look like?

A 1/2 cord of firewood is an amount of wood that fills a space equal to 4 feet long, 4 feet high, and 4 feet deep.

What volume is a cord of wood?

cord, unit of volume for measuring stacked firewood. A cord is generally equivalent to a stack 4 × 4 × 8 feet (128 cubic feet), and its principal subdivision is the cord foot, which measures 4 × 4 × 1 feet. A standard cord consists of sticks or pieces 4 feet long stacked in a 4 × 8-foot rick.

What does M3 mean on a gas meter?

Digital metric gas meters measure gas usage in cubic meters (m3) and usually show 'M' or 'M3'.

What is M3 in water meter?

The water meter records how much water you use in cubic metres (m3). One cubic metre equals 1000 litres - that's enough for either 13 baths, 14 washing machine loads, 28 showers, 33 dishwasher loads or 111 toilet flushes!

How do I measure cubic Metres?

1. Length (in meter) X Width (in meter) X Height (in meter) = Cubic meter (m3)
2. We can define dimensions in Meter, Centimeter, Inch, Feet.

How many millimeters are in a millimeter?

The millimeters unit number 1,000,000,000.00 mm converts to 1 Mm, one megameter.

What is a millimeter in volume?

Milliliter (Metric), volume

A millilitre (ml) equals a thousandth of a litre, or 0,001 litre. ... The litre is not an SI unit but is accepted for use with the SI. The SI unit of volume is the cubic metre (m³).

What is the volume of 1 mm?

A Cubic Millimeter is a cube that is 1 millimeter on each side. It is very small, and we need 1,000 Cubic Millimeters to make just one milliliter. It is also one-millionth of a liter, and one-billionth of a cubic meter.

What is another word for cubic meter?

Alternate Synonyms for "cubic meter":

kiloliter; kilolitre; cubic metre; metric capacity unit.

Which volume is appropriate to measured in cubic meter?

Large volumes are measured in cubic metres (m3). Smaller volumes are measured in cubic centimetres (cm3) or cubic millimetres (mm3). In this cuboid there are 3 layers of cubes.

What is the formula of volume?

Whereas the basic formula for the area of a rectangular shape is length × width, the basic formula for volume is length × width × height.

How do you find area?

To work out the area of a square or rectangle, multiply its height by its width. If the height and width are in cm, the area is shown in cm². If the height and width are in m, the area is shown in m². A square with sides of 5 m has an area of 25 m², because 5 × 5 = 25.
