What is the structure of allyl?

An allyl group is a substituent with the structural formula H₂C=CH−CH₂R, where R is the rest of the molecule. It consists of a methylene bridge (−CH₂−) attached to a vinyl group (−CH=CH₂). The name is derived from the Latin word for garlic, Allium sativum.

How is chloroethane formed?

Chloroethane is produced by hydrochlorination of ethylene: C₂H₄ + HCl → C₂H₅Cl. At various times in the past, chloroethane has also been produced from ethanol and hydrochloric acid, from ethane and chlorine, or from ethanol and phosphorus trichloride, but these routes are no longer economical.

Is benzyl and phenyl the same?

The main difference between Benzyl and Phenyl is that Benzyl is directly derived from Toluene and lacks a hydrogen atom, whereas Phenyl is nothing but a benzene ring lacking a Hydrogen atom, both of them are functional groups.

Is benzyl and benzene the same?
