The K-Line is used for diagnostics and coding, whereas the CAN BUS is used for internal communication.

What does the K-Line do?

The K-Line is a very low-speed single-wire serial communication system used on many motor vehicles and commercial vehicles. It is commonly used for the diagnostic connections between the Electronic Control Modules (ECMs) on the vehicle and the diagnostic equipment (scan tools and data loggers).

What is K-Line and L line?

The K-Line is suitable for both on-board and off- board diagnostics. K-Line is a bidirectional line. Line-L is a unidirectional line and used only during initialization to convey address information from the diagnostic tester to vehicle ECUs, simultaneously with the K line. ...

CAN LIN bus system?

The CAN bus allows for components to talk to each other seamlessly in the automobile. The LIN bus allows for further expansion to peripheral devices. This bus hierarchy was designed to save costs and wiring. Wire is one of the most expensive components in a car.

What should K-Line voltage be?

K line signal voltage is 1V or so lower than battery voltage, Eg, if battery 12V, then signal voltage is about 11V, battery 24V; if battery 24V, then signal voltage is about 23V.

Network Communication Testing: K-Line, Serial and CAN Bus

What is the difference between K-line and CAN bus?

The K-Line is used for diagnostics and coding, whereas the CAN BUS is used for internal communication.

What is the baud rate of K-Line?

The standard transmission rate is 10,400 baud, and speeds up to 115.2 kbaud are used for such purposes as programming of flash memories.

Is LIN bus bidirectional?

The LIN-bus transceiver is a modified version of the transceiver used by the ISO 9141 standard. The bus is bidirectional and connected to the node transceiver, and also via a termination resistor and a diode to Vbat of the node (Figure 1).

What voltage is LIN bus?

The LIN bus, and LIN transceivers, typically operate at voltages ranging from 9 V to 18 V, but some go up to 30 V, depending on the application; a typical vehicle is a 12-V battery system, but some larger vehicles go up to 24 V.

Is LIN single-wire?

LIN hardware

It is a low-cost, single-wire network based on ISO 9141. In today's car networking topologies, microcontrollers with either UART capability or dedicated LIN hardware are used.

What is K bus communication?

The K-bus (also called communications bus) is a term coined by automation. About a K-bus there will becomprehensive exchange of data. In PLC technology, this bus, the task of exchanging data between the CPU of a PLC and its associated function and communication modules is realized.

CAN bus protocol?

The CAN communication protocol is a carrier-sense, multiple-access protocol with collision detection and arbitration on message priority (CSMA/CD+AMP). CSMA means that each node on a bus must wait for a prescribed period of inactivity before attempting to send a message.

What is SAE J1850?

The SAE J1850 bus bus is used for diagnostics and data sharing applications in vehicles. The J1850 bus takes two forms; A 41.6Kbps Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) two wire differential approach, or a 10.4Kbps Variable Pulse Width (VPW) single wire approach.

CAN bus diagnostics tool?

The CAN BUS Analyzer Tool is a simple to use low cost CAN bus monitor which can be used to develop and debug a high speed CAN network. The tool supports CAN 2.0b and ISO11898-2 and a broad range of functions which allow it to be used across various market segments including automotive, industrial, medical and marine.

What is PID in LIN?

The Protected Identifier Field (PID) consists of two sub-fields; the frame identifier and the parity. Bits 0 to 5 are the frame identifier and bits 6 and 7 are the parity.

How do you test a LIN bus wire?

An easy way to check the LIN wiring is to unplug the slave module and check the 'at rest' voltage of the LIN wire. The master should send out the 7 to 12 volt reference. If the wiring to the multi-function switch checks out good, replace the switch. If the input shows to be correct, check the bussed outputs.

What is NAD in LIN?

Configured node address (NAD) of a LIN slave node. NAD is the address of a slave node and is used in diagnostic services. Initial NAD is replaced by Configured NAD with node configuration services. This property must be defined before reading, either by writing to the property or by importing from an LDF.

CAN LIN communication?

LIN is a single-master multislave bus that communicates via a single wire, reducing wiring complexity as well as cost. ... On the one hand, CAN serves high-speed, error-sensitive needs and operates on a 5-V differential bus. LIN, however, serves low-speed, low-bandwidth requirements on a 12-V single-wire bus.

CAN and can fd Frame format?

Both CAN protocols (Classical as well as CAN FD) are internationally standardized in ISO 11898-1:2015. CAN FD data frames with 11-bit identifiers use the FBFF (FD base frame format) and those with 29-bit identifiers use the FEFF (FD extended frame format).

What is LIN driver?

LIN is a single-master multiple-slave bus system. One master node and several slaves build up the bus system. The LIN bus is a single-wire bus system. The master node contains a master task and a slave task, whereas slave nodes only contain slave tasks only.

What is ISO K-line?

The 33660 is a serial link bus interface device designed to provide bi-directional half-duplex communication interfacing in automotive diagnostic applications.

What is Kline interface?

The K-line is a single-wire connection and thus a serial interface, which is directed via a data strand and has a ground connection, so that the designation as a bus with one wire is basically wrong or at least confusing. ... The connection is serial and operates over one data line each for transmission and reception.

What is L line OBD?

The L signal is used for the initialization of the bus. The maximum data rate is 10.4Kbps and maximum signal voltage is 12V. K-Line is connected to pin 7 and L-Line is connected to pin 15 of the OBD-II port.
